Womens Workwear becomes an Industry Priority
Finding correct fitting Workwear as a woman can be a challenge
In the world of fashion and casual clothing, there’s a major distinction between menswear and womenswear, and naturally so with body shape, fit preference, comfort and sizing being the most common differences.
Traditionally, women have not formed a large part of the industrial workforce and as such there is often not a diverse range of garments available resulting in oversized and ill-fitted working clothes, which in turn can compromise the safety of the wearer. Hazchem Safety have identified this issue and have been developing a broader range of Women’s fit working clothes and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Importance of protective workwear for women
There’s a wide range of general PPE and Workwear available that is used daily by workers in the UK to protect them from various risks and hazards. Statistically there is an obvious difference in the number of female workers – if we compare the number of males to females in field work in the UK, women amount to less than 15% of the industry workforce.
This imbalance has led to women’s requirements of separate workwear clothing being ignored in most parts of the world with many women having to wear PPE in men-fit sizes or unisex garments that are not sufficiently tailored to the female form.
There’s a need to recognize how crucial it is for every individual, no matter the gender, to feel comfortable and safe during work and HAZTEC’s development of a women’s FR AS Workwear range seeks to rectify this problem.
Why is the right fit for women important?
Even in everyday clothing, women find it difficult to find the right size for the most part. It’s not that women just want to look good, but everyone should be allowed to feel both smart and safe for the task in hand. So simply adjusting or shrinking a men’s pattern block for women just doesn’t fit the bill. Women are built differently, head to toe.
It’s not a one size fits all – or shape in this case. Unsuitable workwear can create a hindrance in the required movement or excessive fabric can act as trip or catch hazards in areas such as the legs in workwear or fingers in gloves.
With more females making their place into male-dominated industries, suppliers dealing in the safety workwear department should note the need and adapt to the changes and make available the right fit that women need.

This care label is also made with an extremely durable material which is resistant to washing to ensure the information stays readable after multiple washes.
HAZTEC also make use of ‘Chevron-cut’ Reflective Tapes for knitwear garments, applying them using heat to improve stretch and flexibility compared to traditional workwear where the reflective tapes have often been sewn on which reduces flexibility and can easily tear.
And spark-free plastic zippers offer are designed for use in hazardous environments and are tested for use in FR and ARC Flash garments. These zippers are highly effective as they’re made with high quality components that give a durable and functional output equivalent of a metal zipper.
