HAZTEC® Terminology
Fabrics in garments that claim to offer ‘Inherent’ protection are manufactured using fibres and yarns whose Flame Resistant properties will not wash out with washing. Fabrics that offer ‘Treated’ protection are generally (in Haztec garments) produced in Cotton or with a small Polyester content, then treated with a Chemical to give the fabric it’s Flame Retardant properties. These ‘Treated’ fabrics state the number of wash cycles that they should be subjected to before being discarded.
Both fabrics have their uses, depending on the application, wearer life and wash cycle and industry type. Discuss this with a Hazchem representative who would be glad to advise.
PPE requirements vary from site to site depending on the Risk Assessments in place. Consult with your Health and Safety manager for the site that you intend to work on.
