Sustainable PPE in the Offshore & Industry

You can be confident that as a supplier we are environmentally conscious, we stock sustainable PPE and are receptive to industry shifts towards greener energy.

The climate crisis spans all industries and affects every business on a global scale. The UK has committed to decarbonising all UK industries to meet the net zero target by 2050 – this means we must act now.

At Hazchem Safety, we know it’s important to make sustainable choices with our PPE at every level to ensure sustaining positive change. We are constantly working towards a cleaner, greener future as a business and for the industries we supply to.

You can be confident that as a supplier we are environmentally conscious, we stock sustainable PPE and are receptive to industry shifts towards greener energy – particularly in fuel & gas distribution and offshore markets.

What are we doing?

The market is always developing, and new products are constantly emerging in response to the need for sustainable PPE.

Recycling Schemes

Within the PPE industry, there are various schemes in place to ensure the correct standards are met. The Global Recycled Standard (GRS) is an international standard that sets requirements for third-party certification of recycled input.

The standard verifies that the journey, from beginning to end, of a garment’s life cycle is sustainable and recycled content. Third-party certification is considered one of the strongest ways to ensure the integrity of supply chain and sustainability claims.

Eco Brands stocked at Hazchem

We already stock several garments from ORN International’s ‘EarthPro’ Range, which all adhere to this standard.

We also stock Hi-Vis Workwear from Leo Workwear, a company that is committed to taking sustainability seriously. You can shop them here and read more about their values, here.

We also stock Cofra Safety footwear from their eco-friendly footwear collection, the ‘Green Fit’. The products are made 100% from recycled PET (polyethylene terephthalate) – a durable and hardwearing material made sustainably. Shop their products here.

Packaging

Some brands have opted to place cardboard or paper sleeves over the garments for packaging in order to minimise waste. At Hazchem, we focused initially on ensuring our bags are made from recycled materials as customer feedback has been such that if uniform is arriving with insufficient packaging it can reach the end user dirty before even being worn.

We’ve love to hear comments from our customers on whether a cardboard or paper sleeve over the garment is an acceptable solution?

We need your input

Does your business have innovative ideas on how to be sustainable? Have you spotted new trends in the industry that you’d like us to adopt? What would you like to see happen in the PPE industry to create a greener future?

We are committed to doing all that we can and so would love to hear from you. Please email our sustainability manager direct on rosie.connell@hazchemsafety.com.

Greener blog post body

Although it is not strictly our responsibility to tell you what PPE is best, we have had over 40 years of experience when it comes to PPE for drivers and operators in the Gas Industry. So we have come up with some recommendations below for both ladies and men working in this industry.

We know that refineries/terminals are becoming more stringent on the correct PPE being worn when loading gas, so it is important you have suitable PPE.
