SRCL
CASE STUDY
About SRCL
SRCL is the UK’s leading healthcare waste services provider. Part of Stericycle Inc., which provides healthcare services to over 500,000 customers worldwide, SRCL has grown significantly over the past 10 years. SRCL has a nationwide network of over 20 waste-to-energy facilities, alternative treatment plants, and waste transfer stations, providing services to customers throughout the UK and Ireland. 2,000 staff and a fleet of more than 300 vehicles provide invaluable hazardous waste disposal services to hospitals, surgeries, and other medical practitioners up and down the country.
The problem
SRCL needed a supplier who understood the hazards faced by people working in the infectious waste sector and could provide a range of PPE to effectively protect against those dangers. They had experienced poor advice and service from a previous workwear and PPE supplier, which was primarily an engineering supplies company. The tender process was also engineered to select a supplier that would be able to work with SRCL to consolidate the range of products used and simplify the supply chain. Due to the way that SRCL had grown by acquisition, the supplier would need to demonstrate the ability to provide excellent service to all parts of the UK.
The solution
Hazchem Safety was awarded the contract to supply all of the UK operation with PPE and workwear in April 2015 after being successful in an American-style competitive tender. Hazchem field sales personnel visited all the sites to introduce the company, new range of products, and the ordering system, which made for a very smooth transition. SRCL are delighted that Hazchem has been able to save 40% on their PPE and workwear per annum whilst improving user safety, PPE comfort, and service levels. The contract has now extended to supply the other Stericycle companies in the UK, Avanti Environmental, and Shredit. Both companies have a combined staff of 1,000 people and have slightly different requirements, so close collaboration has been necessary to achieve the corporate identity and protection required.
