Green Double-Dipped PVC Gauntlets

Green Double-Dipped PVC Gauntlets – the Oil-Industry favourite

Green Double-Dipped Gauntlets are chemical-resistant safety gloves designed to provide durable hand protection when handling oils, greases, chemicals, fuels, and other industrial substances. Their double-dipped coating improves resistance to liquid penetration while maintaining grip and durability. They are commonly used in chemical manufacturing, fuel handling, maintenance operations, waste management, and other regulated industrial environments where hand protection is required.

The Problem

Historically tanker drivers would use red PVC gauntlets as the main protection against the hazards of handling hydrocarbons.   As we all know the potential risks of consistently coming into contact with oil range from dermatitis to skin cancer so suitable hand protection is essential for tanker drivers.  The traditional red PVC gauntlets provided adequate protection but only lasted a couple of days before cracks started to form in the thumb crotch and the PVC became stiff, particularly in cold weather.   In addition, there is very little grip, due to the smooth surface of the PVC, and poor thermal protection.

The Solution

Over the past 10 years Hazchem has seen a transition to the extensive use of green-double-dipped gauntlets in the oil distribution industry.  The main advantages are greater longevity, typically more than double the life of the red type, and excellent grip in wet or oily conditions due to the granulated palm.  The fleece lined version is extremely popular for winter use and the open cuff design makes the very quick to don and doff.   Drivers develop little tricks to further improve the wearer experience like folding back the cuff to stop any product from running down the glove and then the sleeve!   Large stockholdings of the gloves in our warehouses in Brackley and Aberdeen provide our customers with the assurance of continuity of supply for this essential item of PPE.

Who are Green Double-Dipped Gauntlets suitable for?

These gauntlets are commonly used by:

  • Chemical manufacturing and processing operatives
  • Fuel and gas industry personnel
  • ADR transport and hazardous goods handling teams
  • Maintenance engineers and workshop technicians
  • Waste management and environmental services teams
  • Site operatives handling oils, lubricants, solvents, or cleaning chemicals

Where multiple teams operate across sites, standardising glove selection can help simplify PPE management and procurement.

What protection do double-dipped gauntlets provide?

Double-dipped gauntlets are designed to provide:

  • Enhanced resistance to oils and greases
  • Improved protection against liquid penetration
  • Better durability than many single-coated alternatives
  • Reliable grip in wet or contaminated environments
  • Hand protection for routine industrial handling tasks

The suitability of any glove should always be confirmed against the substances identified in your site risk assessment.

Compliance Considerations

When selecting chemical-resistant gloves, employers should ensure the gloves specified match the hazards identified in their risk assessment. Consider:

  • Chemical exposure risks
  • Contact duration
  • Mechanical handling requirements
  • Grip requirements
  • Worker comfort and usability

Selecting suitable hand protection helps support workplace safety programmes and compliance obligations.

Further Developments

With the increase in the number of women drivers Hazchem introduced an additional smaller size so that there is now four sizes to choose from, in most popular 14” style, ranging from a trim size eight through to a roomy size 11.  Two glove lengths, 14” and 11”, and the option of a smooth, summer lining or the fleece liner for winter use make the range suitable for all requirements.  The introduction of more expensive composite gauntlets have not shifted the Haztec double-dipped gauntlet from being the fuel drivers glove of choice!

FAQ: Green Double-Dipped Gauntlets

Are double-dipped gauntlets resistant to chemicals?

Double-dipped gauntlets can provide resistance to a range of chemicals, oils, greases, and industrial substances. The exact level of protection depends on the glove material and the chemical involved. Always check the product specification and your risk assessment requirements.

What is the benefit of a double-dipped coating?

A double-dipped coating creates an additional protective layer, helping improve durability, liquid resistance, and service life compared to some single-coated glove designs.

Can these gauntlets be used in fuel handling environments?

They are commonly used in fuel handling, chemical processing, maintenance, and industrial operations where protection from oils, fuels, and contaminants may be required. Suitability should be confirmed against the substances being handled.

How do I know if these gloves are suitable for my task?

Review the glove specification alongside your workplace risk assessment, considering chemical exposure, mechanical hazards, grip requirements, and expected wear conditions.

Can businesses standardise these gloves across multiple sites?

Many organisations standardise glove selections to improve consistency, simplify procurement, and support compliance management. The correct glove should still be matched to the hazards present at each site.

What industries commonly use chemical-resistant gauntlets?

Chemical manufacturing, fuel and gas operations, ADR transport, waste management, utilities, engineering, and power generation organisations commonly use chemical-resistant gauntlets as part of their PPE programmes.
